This is the motto of the cover-version business: in the late 90s many artists thought that "a good copy is better than a bad original". Cover versions in the charts were booming when in 1999 coverinfo.de started with its precursor website cover.here.de. In 2000 already the website used my slogan "Discover the original!". It's coverinfo.de's slogan until today because I like it more than the other slogan I had invented: "The Discovery Channel for fans of music." Our "rival" website SecondHandSongs which has been founded in 2003 thinks the same way. In April 2013 they were searching for a new slogan and they also liked "Discover the original". They asked us if we would mind if they used our slogan. My answer was that I don't agree because the websites coverinfo.de and SecondHandSongs don't mate, i. e. are independent of each other. Thus, in my opinion, they must have different slogans. Today there was a relaunch of SecondHandSongs. Their new slogan is "Discover The Original". Well, that's just how it works in the world of cover versions: a good copy is better than a bad original. | |
